Acting is a craft you live from the inside out.
Acting is about giving. Acting requires guts, perseverance and authenticity. You are your own instrument. As an actor, you engage in constant battle with yourself and the material.
Fortunately, you are never alone in this. Acting is a collaborative art. With others you create and tell old and new stories that speak to today's issues. Acting is also its own craft.
You train the expressiveness of your body and your voice intensively. Through performance projects, you’ll be introduced to a diverse array of directors, approaches, and styles of acting. You work closely and extensively with the performing and directing programmes. This is not only to inspire you but to broaden your theatrical horizon as well. Acting for the camera is also part of your training, as is attention to musical development. Every student receives singing lessons. If you also want to play your own music and/or learn to compose, you may chose follow an additional programme.
During theory lessons, you are introduced to the theatre tradition and our cultural past. Still, you always bridge your understanding to the present. What does acting mean today? You think critically about developments in the theatre and film landscapes, as well as beyond. You learn to determine and name your own place.
Together with your study advisor/mentor, you map out your personal study route. You will take on various internships and perform in productions across the Netherlands and abroad. The Academy's professors and all guest faculty have at least one foot in the field of national and international theater. They inspire and guide you on the paths you want to take.
