A redesigned programme for the performing artists of tomorrow.
Toneelacademie Maastricht is a vibrant hub where a close-knit community of students and teachers come together to collaborate, learn, and experiment. Here, performing artists are trained in a dynamic environment rich with professional knowledge, practical skills, and meaningful exchange — all deeply relevant to the theatre of tomorrow.
Starting in the 2025–2026 academic year, Toneelacademie Maastricht will redesign its programmes in Acting, Directing, Performing, and Design. During the base year, all students will follow a shared curriculum. After that, they will gradually begin to specialize, following a path that best fits their interests and talents.
This redesign is necessary since the theatre maker of the future is a hybrid artist, able to move fluidly across disciplines. A theatre maker who not only initiates projects independently but also collaborates with the creative and public sectors, as well as with the social domain. Following the bachelor’s programme, students continue seamlessly on to our master’s course, designed to work closely with each individual student and support the development of a sustainable career built on a cohesive body of work. In this master’s phase, there is a strong emphasis on artistic entrepreneurship and artistic research.
The academy actively cultivates a close-knit, small-scale learning community of thinkers, risk-takers, and go-getters. Central to the student experience are encounters with “the other” — with that which is unfamiliar, challenging, or different in the world.
