Push the boundaries between theatre and other art forms.
As a performer, you want to work outside the classic director/actor template. You seek out and cross the boundaries of theatre, flirting with visual art, film, music and literature. Through improvisation and intensive training, you learn to deal with old and new theatrical forms. You train the expressiveness of your body and your voice. You learn to work with cameras, sound and new media.
Working on various projects, you come into contact with a wide variety of theatre concepts, performances, acting styles and media. You yourself are the starting point of your performance. You put yourself on display. That takes guts and perseverance.
Theory lessons introduce you to the theatre tradition and our cultural past. You build a bridge to the present. You think critically about developments in the arts. What is the relevance of the performer? What can new media mean in your work? You learn to articulate and support your own artistic vision.
Together with your study supervisor, you will map out your own study route. You will take on various internships and perform in productions across the Netherlands and abroad. The Academy's teachers and guest faculty have at least one foot in the active arts in the Netherlands or Flanders. Through exercises, improvisations, small performances and multimedia productions, they will blaze new trails with you, with the final destination being your imaginative narrative power as a performer.
