Theatre Design: Scenography and Costume Design at the Toneelacademie Maastricht provides a profound education for talented students to be the designers of the future. Despite the wide and significant scope of our schooling we still function as a home for our students, with enough space to get lost from time to time. Compared to other art and design academies in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands we distinguish ourselves in three ways.

International focus
A visit to the Biennale in Venice, a theatre technique lesson at the Bonn National Opera, an internship in Vienna, partaking in an Erasmus student exchange programme in Istanbul, weekly international guest lectures. At our school this is culture, daily practice. Our focus is as international as our geographical location. Do you aspire to a career that crosses boundaries? Largescale productions
Our programme at Toneelacademie Maastricht is thé programme preparing you to contribute to largescale art productions. Our scenographers and costume designers work everywhere: in the field of theatre, opera, film, museums, festivals, in fashion and as independent artists. Choosing to study theatre design in Maastricht is choosing to expand your work field and opting for more possibilities for your professional future.

Specialising and combining studies
Our four year educational programme to become a theatre designer, is internationally speaking, the only one where you can either specialise or combine two complementary art disciplines: scenography and costume design. In your first year you discover your main talent and decide in which discipline you wish to specialise. If studying and creating comes easily to you, we allow you to graduate in both disciplines.
