What the teaching profession gives me most is that I have come to know myself better as an artist. It is a blessing to be able to explore, discover, learn with so many different performers every week.
What teaching has mostly brought me is a pressure-free environment in which to improve my directing and making work and experiment. It is a good mirror for my work.
Transferring artistic skills and methods forces you to take a hard look at your own way of working, and that has taught me a lot about my own practice. It makes me look more consciously at what kind of work I make and why.
I now just teach and am very happy with that. How my professional life looks is definitely due to the D-course. I got a permanent contract; more new opportunities and possibilities are coming up all the time.
