Hangman, een oude huisschilder, heeft nieuwe kleding gekocht sinds hij met pensioen. Terwijl hij zijn nieuwe kleding past begint zijn oude schilderspak magisch tot leven te komen en te protesteren. ''Hangman & Co.'' is een magisch realistische kortfilm, geschoten in zwart en wit, over identiteit en hoe je je naar je werk verhoudt, ouder worden, en werk uniforms. Geïnspireerd op hun eigen familieleden die verschillende blue collar jobs hebben, maakten Birsu en haar team een absurde film waarin workwear de hoofdrol speelt.
Met Hangman & Co. won Birsu samen met haar team (Hedzer Seffinga en Matti Paffen) de Fashionclash filmpitch waarmee ze haar filmdebuut als (co-)regisseur & scenarist kon realiseren. De film werd onlangs geselecteerd voor internationale filmfestivals als Canadian International Fashion Film Festival (CANIFFF), Cyprus Fashion Film Festival, Amsterdam New Cinema Film Festival, en is na de zomer ook mogelijk te zien in Parijs, Istanbul, Sarajevo en Londen.

Hangman, an elderly house painter who has just retired, is trying on new clothes. His work uniform, however, doesn’t agree, and begins to magically come to life amid loud protests. “Hangman & Co.” is a magical realist short film, shot in black and white, about identity and your relationship to your work, growing older, and work uniforms. Inspired by their own family members who hold various blue-collar jobs, Birsu and her team created an absurd film in which workwear plays the leading role.
With Hangman & Co., Birsu and her team (Hedzer Seffinga and Matti Paffen) won the Fashionclash film pitch, which allowed her to make her film debut as (co-)director and screenwriter. The film was recently selected for international film festivals such as the Canadian International Fashion Film Festival (CANIFFF), the Cyprus Fashion Film Festival, and the Amsterdam New Cinema Film Festival, and will also be screened in Paris, Istanbul, Sarajevo, and London after the summer.

Deze voorstelling is onderdeel van het afstudeerfestival ‘Festival Gemaakt - Point of View’, dat plaatsvindt op donderdag 11, vrijdag 12 en zaterdag 13 juni 2026.
Festival Gemaakt biedt een podium aan een diverse groep talentvolle studenten - acteurs, regisseurs, performers en vormgevers - die gedurende drie dagen hun afstudeervoorstellingen, exposities, films, onderzoeken en meer presenteren.
This performance iss part of the graduation festival ‘Festival Gemaakt - Point of View’, which takes place on Thursday 11, Friday 12 and Saturday 13 June 2026.
Festival Gemaakt provides a platform for a diverse group of talented students - actors, directors, performers and designers - who, over the course of three days, present their graduation performances, exhibitions, films, research and more.
