Study load
The part-time Teacher & Director course is a four-year course that, provided you meet a number of conditions, you can complete in three years. The programme is part-time, classes are on Fridays and Saturdays, you will have 16 to 18 hours of lessons. In addition, you will need an average of 8 hours per week for self-study and from the second year onwards, you will do an internship for half a day per week.
Individual attention
Toneelacademie Maastricht is a close-knit community of thinkers, daredevils and doers. Our programme works with small groups of a maximum of 12 students per year. As a result, students receive plenty of individual attention. A small team of permanent teachers, supplemented by guest teachers, have strong ties with international professional practice.
Propedeuse
You receive elementary acting, cultural appreciation, elementary theatre making and elementary didactics. If the selection course shows that you have sufficient knowledge and/or experience in some of these subjects, you can be admitted to the abridged three-year programme. The programme then starts in the basic phase.
Basic Phase
A solid technical and didactic foundation is laid. You have lessons in acting, voice, singing and movement, and you learn how to construct a lesson. You take your first steps as a theatre maker.
Professional Phase
You deepen your knowledge and skills of the Basic Phase and the teaching profession. You do work placements in and outside education. In the second part of this phase, you acquire skills to master the craft of directing (direction training). As a theatre maker, you are given room to develop a signature style.
Final Phase
You complete your studies and remain active as a performer and mover. In the regular curriculum, you receive extensive support for your directing internship. You write an essay and work on a personal artistic research project.
Internships
The internships in the professional and final phase take place in your own home/work environment and require 1 to 2 half-days a week of study time. You work under the guidance of an internship supervisor. You are also supported by teachers from Toneelacademie.
