The teacher training programme for professionals consists of two phases: the main phase and the graduation phase. In this practice-oriented course, you will work on a wide and intensive range of internships and projects.
Main phase
In the main phase, you lay the foundations of theory and practice. A solid theoretical foundation is part of the programme, but applicability is central. Lessons are immediately tested, integrated and applied in various internships.
Graduation phase
In the graduation phase, you focus more on your individual profile. In consultation with your student counsellor, you compile the content of your graduation programme yourself. During this phase, you develop various theatre projects that tie in with your practice and that you carry out independently.
Curriculum
• Didactics of acting: designing attractive teaching assignments, lesson structure, game forms, learning to use your craft as an actor/director or performer in teaching situations
• Theory: developmental psychology, educational concepts and models, learning styles and learning theory
• Teaching placement
• Intervision: your artistry and vision as a source for your lessons
• Directing internship with non-professional actors
• Directing training: this training is an accompaniment to your directing internship. You complete this with a performance with non-professional players.

- Integrate theatre lessons with other art disciplines
- Make a high-quality and personal contribution to the quality and renewal of art education, both inside and outside schools.
Small groups
Toneelacademie Maastricht is a close-knit community of thinkers, daredevils and doers. Our programme works with small groups of a maximum of 10 students per year. This allows for a lot of individual attention. During the programme, you work intensively with your fellow students and learn from their experiences and practices. You will have a mentor who will be your contact throughout the year, with whom you can consult and who will give you feedback.
Study load
The programme is full-time, classes are on Fridays from 11am to 6.30pm. You will also need an average of 12 hours per week of self-study, internships and projects.
