The program takes three years. The lessons are given on Fridays and Saturdays, for a total of 16 to 18 hours per weekend. You are also required to devote an average of eight hours a week to independent study (excluding work placements).
During the first year, the foundation year, you are given a thorough grounding in the technical and pedagogical sides of the profession. You have lessons in acting, voice and movement , and you learn how to construct a lesson.
In the second year, the main phase, you build on this foundation and apply what you have learned in a number of short lesson blocks and practicals. You also do a work placement focusing on teaching.
You complete your program in the third year, the final phase. Besides the standard lesson programme, you devote a great deal of attention to your final directing project. You write an essay in the context of cultural criticism.
The work placements in the second and third year of the program take place in your own living and working environment and require 1 or 2 half-days of study each week. Academy instructors supervise you on the spot.
